Leaning on logic
If you find yourself struggling with a loss of motivation, fatigue, or a disinterest in typically preferred activities- it may be unrealistic to expect that we will want to engage in self-care or coping skills.
If you noticed yourself experiencing these symptoms, I encourage you to, “lean on logic.” This means that you may not want to go for that walk, but we know logically it is good for our mental health. We may not want to reach out to a friend for support, but we know this has been helpful in the past. We may not feel like participating in therapy, but we know this can offer support.
When we lean on logic, we create momentum towards an increased desire in engaging in these coping skills. If we wait to feel like doing these things, the process of feeling better might actually become more difficult and take much longer. When we take action first we give our brain the opportunity to feel reward and in return create the feeling of motivation!
Next time you are experiencing a hard moment lean on your logic as a source of support when your emotions can’t quite get you there.
